Back to Basics: Monotype
With Mandy Pattullo

4 Tuesday Evenings | Nov 1, 8, 15, 22 2011 | 18.45 - 21.15 |

If you have never done any printmaking before and love colour then this is the course for you! Learn how to use rollers and brushes to apply coloured inks to a metal plate then make marks by lifting ink away with a variety of tools. By inking and printing textured papers and fabrics you can incorporate pattern speedily. You can even use natural materials like leaves and grasses to capture great silhouettes without drawing! The plates will be printed using an old fashioned printing press to create unique works of art. There will be demonstrations each week of a variety of methods and creative possibilities followed by time to make numerous prints of your own. You will also receive individual guidance on how to develop you ideas and get the most out of the medium. Experienced printmakers are also welcome with a view to refreshing their skills and extending their ideas.

Fish and Fowl - Collagraphs
With Mandy Pattullo
4 Tuesday Evenings | Feb 28, March 6, 13, 20 | 18.45 - 21.15 |

The beauty and variety of sea creatures and birds is hugely varied and inspirational. Bring in your own photos, drawings and natural history books as the starting point for fabulous coloured prints. The marks and textures you can get through the collagraph technique are perfect to build up images of birds and fish. You will learn to make a collagraph “plate” by sticking on a variety of textures and making marks in wet fillers and pastes. These build up to an evocative portrait of a bird or fish complete with realistic looking feathers and scales. Once you have made your image you can print it many times and in different colours.
