Horsley Printmakers at the Biscuit Factory
7th March to 20th April
Preview Friday 7th March 6 - 9 pm

After our highly successful exhibition last year, we return to the Biscuit Factory with more innovative hand-made prints. The exhibition will showcase some of the best prints produced on our courses giving our students the opportunity to display their work in a high quality commercial gallery. The students’ work shows a wide range of approaches and demonstrates the vast scope for creativity within each printmaking discipline. Etchings, photo-etchings, collagraphs, monoprints and lino-cuts will all be represented as well as some interesting mixed-media work. Our students use the extraordinary mark-making potential of print to explore diverse subject matter.

Once again, course tutors Rebecca Vincent and Carol Nunan will be showing their own work alongside their students. Rebecca will have more of her popular patchwork landscapes and Carol has a new range of collagraphs which explore the historical landscape of Northumberland and Scotland and the marks left by pre-historic man. This year Carol and Rebecca are joined by new tutor, Mandy Pattullo who has a unique printing style influenced by a background in textile design.

Rebecca and Carol will be talking about their work and demonstrating how they make it in the gallery on 20th March 6 - 8pm. To reserve a free ticket phone 0191 2611103

The Art Tour @The Hearth 2008

Sundays:
June 15th 22nd 29th & July 6th.
11 am to 5 pm

WELCOME to our annual NETWORK Art Tour at The Hearth. We have another impressive line up of artists, ten faces, ten very different paths through the creative process represented by portraiture, painted, printed and photographic landscapes, wildlife, children's illustrations and ceramics.

See more of the artists' work

See below for more details of the event.

THE TEN ARTISTS

The complete newcomers are: John Fowler, who will happily sketch your portrait - just ask him nicely; Sylvia Lynch, will show you the sketch books she works from to develop her illustrations of wildlife and story characters; Anne Tuck, will show you how she paints and dyes the fabrics she uses in her wall hangings.

Then there is Sara Jane Palmer, new to The Hearth but not to the Art Tour, she will talk you through the working methods behind her ceramic heads, slip dishes and bone china vessels; Harry Hall, previously of the Art Tour in Alnwick, will tell you about the mountaineering exploits behind some of his photographic work; June Drage will be showing original prints, photographs and paintings inspired by Holy Island and demonstrating lino printing.

The resident artists are David Holliday and his watercolours; Have you always wanted a chance to use a wheel? Lorraine Clay will be doing demonstrations during the day; if you ever wondered what went into making an original print? Rebecca Vincent and Carol Nunan will show you.

WHERE TO EAT

There’s coffee and cake … or a light lunch … or afternoon tea in The Hearth Coffee Shop. You will need it to keep you going for at least a couple of hours whilst you‘re with us! Or try The Lion and Lamb pub across the road. They have an excellent menu, a fantastic south facing patio garden, overlooking the wonderful vista of the Tyne Valley (perfect for a summer's day) … there is plenty of space and a great safe playground to keep the little ones happy too!
