On the Edge of Abstraction
With Mandy Pattullo

Saturday and Sunday | Feb 18/19| 10.00 – 16.00 |

How do artists look at the real world then interpret what they see as near-abstract shapes, marks and surfaces? From a representational starting point, you will be encouraged to move towards abstraction by simplifying what you see and working from different view points. Using a range of mixed media and print techniques you will be able to create collaged, drawn and painted pieces that really start to develop your own personal language of forms. We will look at the work of Ben Nicholson, George Braque and Howard Hodgkin among others. Bring in your own inspirational objects – pots, seed heads, patterned cloths, musical instruments etc to create shared still life areas in the window recesses of the Hearth.

MANDY PATTULLO is an artist who works with textiles, printmaking, photography and artists books. She trained as a surface pattern designer and as a teacher.
